LIVE FROM THE SHELTER continued...
( emergency overnight sleeping spot for stranded people at the
HELP Base Ulaan Bataar / Mongolia)
Posted by HELP Mongolia (Silke Schurr) -continued
“One by one, please! Hey, wait, let me see what’s in your pocket...!
What is in that bottle?
Just water? How comes it smells of vodka....it seems, we better
keep it in our cupboard and tomorrow you’ll get it back!”
Bataar has to check on everybody and digs out screw drivers,
alcohol andother items that we don’t want to see being used in
our shelter. All these things are locked up in our “safe” until
next morning our friends can retrieve them. Even crutches have
been used as weapons – so they have to be safeguarded as well.
“First wash your hands and your face...!” “Where is the soap?”
“ How can it be – all soap disappeared again?” This seems to be
a good problem.
Our solution is to give out plenty of new soap.
“Sugi, don’t you know that we can’t let you in when you are drunk.
Last time you caused nothing but trouble and you had to leave...”
As Sugi can’t be convinced, he is firmly been led outside - only to
come back the next day more or less sober.
Our friends do appreciate our place. It’s not only the good meals
and first aid in the HELP-Mongolia Shelter a warm and cozy place
to stay overnight. Apart from that people are feeling accepted and
encouraged – either by one of the co workers or through the short
message after supper. Many also like being prayed for.
