We just came back from a road trip to Ocala, Florida. Every year there
is a "Rainbow Gathering" and we attended for the second time. All 6 of us guys were excited to get on the road. We organized and planned things for weeks in advance. Our guests and interns
who never went to a gathering like that were especially looking forward to it.
Early in the morning we hit the road. We wanted to get as much as
possible of the 1200 miles driving done in one day. After over 20 hours of
traveling we arrived safely at our destination. We unloaded our backbacks and
gear and went into the woods where everybody else was. After half an hour of hiking
we found a good spot and set up our camp.
Our goal was to minister and serve the people who visit the "Rainbow Gathering", to
bring them the love of Christ. We also wanted them to get to know our ministry in case they deside to get help.
To do this practically, we opened a coffee shop on the main trail where we served coffee, hot chocolate, oatmeal in the morning and Ramen soups the rest of the day. Soon everybody got wind of us and we were well known as the
"Cream-and-Sugar kitchen" who has the best java in the woods.
Besides the brewing and serving of coffee (approx. 18 gallons a day) we
were able to have some deep conversations about Jesus. The
worship times we had were especially awesome. God's love, peace and presence
were so palpable in all the chaos, restlessness and sinful environment that many came to experience it and were touched by the atmosphere around our camp.
Many young homeless travelers often visit these kind of gatherings, we saw some people that we've already knew from Austin. We greeted others who had already heard about us and we had a chance to meet them. One girl from California told
us that she saw many of our patches over there and she was so happy to finally meet us.
Living in the woods without any sanitation with a bunch of Hippies and
homeless Travelers was challenging in many aspects, but it was
worth every bit of it. We believe the seeds that we were able to
sow will take root and grow.
Only because of your partnership we are able to do this ministry reaching out to the lost and needy. Thank you for all your support and prayers.
